"Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others."

My purpose is to help people grow, and in particular, to help leaders enhance their ability to enable their teams, partners and organizations to do their best work.

I bring my 25 plus years of leadership and management experience and my counseling background to the table to help leaders and managers realize their potential. I am passionate about helping people hone skills and use new tools that will help them be more effective. I love working with leaders to help them grow and flourish, because leaders have such an amazing opportunity and responsibility to champion change and improvement and help others do their best work.  While I love working with anyone wishing to become a better leader, am particularly drawn to working with mission-driven leaders and organizations to help them catalyze change and make positive social impacts.

Some of my areas of expertise and interest include:

  • Helping leaders and managers adopt exemplary leadership practices, including transformative and facilitative leadership

  • Working with new and emerging leaders, especially those recently promoted to management, supervisory or other leadership roles to help them successfully transition by taking an intentional approach to developing their own personal leadership style, skills, and approaches.

  • Providing new tools (such as Liberating Structures) that help create highly effective group processes and meetings that involve and engage everyone and ensure creative and innovative thinking, and successful planning, decision-making and problem solving.

  • Supporting community organizing efforts by helping leaders engage the voices, perspectives and power of diverse community members and leaders and facilitate collective learning and planning processes that result in action

  • Facilitating approaches to change management and change-making that focus on the human factors that make or break change efforts.

  • Applying positive psychology principles and practices to team and organizational development to foster high functioning teams, strong morale and performance, and high job satisfaction and retention.

  • Developing leadership in everyone regardless of position or expectations; developing change champions at all levels within organizations and systems

  • Helping organizations, teams and leaders create clarity and focus by starting with purpose as they engage in strategic thinking & planning, program development, evaluation and improvement efforts

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, and am a Licensed Professional Counselor. While coaching and counseling are two very different things, the skills and frameworks I have employed as a counselor form the foundation of what I do as a coach and help me partner with you to create a trusting relationship that helps you flourish. I will work to help you access your own wisdom, values, and sense of meaning and purpose by asking good questions, pointing out discrepancies, highlighting strengths, and identifying where patterns of thinking or behavior may be holding you back. While strengths based, I don't shy away from helping you take a hard look at areas that are challenges for you, and yet I do so with a gentle, supportive stance.

I am also a graduate of the Regional Institute of Health and Environmental Leadership’s Advanced Leadership Training Program where I discovered my passion for supporting and empowering the development of exemplary leadership practices.

On a personal note, my husband Timothy and I live in Bellingham, WA, and have three children, ages 21, 17 and 17 who are all in college. We also have a goofy Labrador Retriever (who can't hold his licker - see photo) and a grumpy old Jack Russell Terrier. I enjoy hiking, cycling, paddle boarding, playing my ukulele, and capturing the beauty of the world and its people through photography (check out Brand New View Photography!)

I hope to meet you soon, and perhaps get the opportunity to work together.
